The STINSON L-5 Sentinel is an ideal model for those who want to scratch build an economical giant scale warbird with docile flight characteristics. Probably one of the best "warbugs" for flying off of all types of fields (grass or pavement) in all types of weather. Nick named "The flying Jeep", it handles all field conditions with ease. Construction is an all wood built-up structure that is simple and straight forward utilizing conventional materials and assembly techniques. The model features a two piece wing design for easy transportation and yet provides easy assembly/disassembly at the field. The plans show all structures and parts drawn full size with template outlines provided for all major parts. The plans also show the installation of flaps and leading edge slots. Parts available are: fiberglass cowl, formed and welded wire landing gear, vacuum-formed plastic L.G. covers and blisters and dummy exhaust stacks. A five channel radio is required. The 1/4 scale L-5 can utilize our 5.00 scale wheels or you can use 5.50 Dubro balloon style wheels for those really soft fields or thick uneven "un-improved" grass runways. The pilot required is our "militarized" 1/4 scale civ pilot. Vailly Aviation also offers a 1/3 scale version of our famous Stinson L-5. Our 1/3 scale version is a 33% enlargement of our very successful 1/4 scale plans which have been adjusted and redrawn. Accessory parts available are: a fiberglass cowl, and vacuum-formed plastic L.G. strut covers and blisters and dummy exhaust stacks. The construction is similar to the 1/4 scale version, but a lot bigger. A five channel radio is required. The pilot required is our "militarized" 1/3 scale civ pilot.
We also offer flat clear plastic sheets to fabricate the windshield and all other windows for the L-5. (4 sheets (12 X 18) are required to do a complete ¼ scale airframe). (4 sheets (18 X 24) are required to do a complete 1/3 scale airframe). (Sheet stock may be purchased individually) |
